Speech Therapy for Kids - How to Get Your Child to Speak | Nandini Kulkarni

Are you concerned about your child's speech or language development?

A child’s brain develops rapidly in the first 3 years of life and this is a critical period for acquiring speech and language skills. If a child does not meet speech and language developmental milestones between 12 and 24 months, there are chances that the child has problems with speech, language, voice, swallowing or hearing, that affects their ability to communicate.

Did you know that 14% to 20% of pre-school children have delayed or disordered speech and language? While some speech disorders may simply go away with time, others can improve with speech therapy and help the child to lead a better quality of life. Speech and language problems should be addressed at the earliest (less than 1year) as they can be overcome with early intervention (treatment), when the developing brain is still able to absorb a language.

Narayana Nethralaya’s Buds to Blossoms offers speech therapy for children with speech and language problems. Our speech-language pathologist (SLP) will assess the speech, language, cognitive-communication, and oral/feeding/swallowing skills of the child with special speech, language and hearing tests to identify the type of communication problem (fluency, articulation, voice, receptive and expressive language disorders, etc.). Based on the test results, the SLP will suggest activities that can be done at home, or group and individual therapy to help stimulate speech and language development in the child.
