UMiami Emergency Notification Network (ENN): Armed Intruder Alert

A UMiami ENN Armed Intruder alert is issued when emergency personnel have confirmed that an individual is actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people on campus. If you were notified about an armed intruder on campus, would you know how to act? Here's a plan that should keep you safe: Get Out, Hide Out, Act Out. Get Out. If there's a safe escape route, use it to evacuate the area and call 911 once you're safe. Hide Out. If you can't evacuate, shelter in place where the intruder is less likely to find you. Turn off your cell phone, obstruct any entryways, and remain quiet until help arrives. Act Out. If and only if you find your life in imminent danger, attempt to incapacitate the intruder by throwing objects, yelling, or physically attacking him or her.
