Standing quietly in the village of Corjuem, surrounded by swaying palms and the gentle rhythm of island life, rises the serene Mãe de Deus Chapel — a place of faith, reflection, and enduring devotion.

According to parish history, the chapel was built in the mid-1850s with the support of local benefactor João Filippe Ferreira, and was blessed on 3 May 1855 — becoming a spiritual anchor for Corjuem and its people.
Over the decades, families gathered here for feast days and simple devotions.
Children learned the rhythms of community life, and elders found solace in familiar hymns.
The chapel’s whitewashed walls and humble architecture speak of devotion expressed through humility and continuity rather than grandeur.
Seen from above, the chapel rests gently within the village — framed by narrow paths, green fields, and open skies — as if it has grown out of the land itself.
