News Russian military base shaken by Ukraine attack

Ukraine attacks Russian military base and strategic port

On December 4, Ukrainian forces launched major attacks on the Dyagilevo air base in Ryazan and the port of Novorossiysk on Russia's Black Sea coast. These attacks further escalated tensions between the two countries.

Attack at Dyagilevo base

According to Russian media, in the early morning of December 4, a series of explosions were recorded near the Dyagilevo air base in Ryazan city. This is a strategic base of Russia, home to the 43rd Flight Training and Combat Application Center. This base is equipped with many strategic aircraft such as Tu-95MS, Tu-22M3, Tu-134UBL, An-26, and Il-78 aerial refueling tankers. The area is also home to a major aircraft repair plant, the 360th Repair Plant.

The attacks on Dyagilevo demonstrate Ukraine's ability to target key military facilities inside Russian territory, increasing pressure on Moscow's defenses.

Attack on Novorossiysk

At the same time, Ukraine is also believed to have attacked the port of Novorossiysk, one of the main ports of Russia's Black Sea Fleet. According to Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Countering Disinformation Center at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC), ships in the port were targeted. However, details of the damage are still being clarified.

Novorossiysk is an important part of Russia's military infrastructure, especially after military facilities in Crimea have been repeatedly attacked in recent times. The significant damage in Sevastopol has forced Moscow to move more forces and military equipment to the port, making it a priority target for Ukraine.

Russia's response

The Russian Defense Ministry announced that on the night of December 3 and the morning of December 4, the country's air defense forces intercepted and destroyed 24 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Specifically, 6 UAVs were shot down in the Rostov region, 5 in Bryansk, 4 in Belgorod, 3 in Ryazan, 1 in Astrakhan and 5 in Krasnodar Krai. However, Russia did not release details on the extent of damage at the attacked facilities.

Statements from both sides

In an interview with CNN on the same day, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov stressed that there was no room for compromise between Moscow and Kiev at the moment. He said that the positions of the two sides were completely opposite and affirmed that Russia would not give in to the conditions proposed by Ukraine.

On the Russian side, President Vladimir Putin has set out preconditions for a ceasefire, including Ukraine abandoning its bid to join NATO and withdrawing its troops from four regions that Russia has annexed. However, Kiev has firmly rejected these demands.

The latest Ukrainian attacks on the Dyagilevo base and the port of Novorossiysk mark an escalation in the ongoing war and demonstrate Kiev’s determination to continue to put military pressure on Russia. Meanwhile, the dialogue between the two sides remains deadlocked, raising concerns about the possibility of a prolonged conflict.
