THE FRIGHTENERS (1996) - WTF Happened to this Horror Movie?

Before Peter Jackson became a big-budget A-list Director known for such hits as the Lord Of The Rings films and King Kong, he was known for his low-budget horror output. While pitching an idea that grabs Robert Zemeckis, he begins an adventure that will take him into ghost hunting with Michael J. Fox but, in the end, will leave him at odds with Universal Studios. The problem is that he delivers a fun film that pushes the boundaries of special effects that audiences would end up loving. The problem is Universal puts up roadblocks at every turn, and then the MPAA tries to hinder the film in any way they can
