Redwood steps build for Spa or Jacuzzi

Описание к видео Redwood steps build for Spa or Jacuzzi

This is a build of a 3 Step Redwood spa Jacuzzi stairs. It includes design plan as well as a cut list and is made from 3- 2x6x12 and 1 2x6x16 redwood lumber. It is roughly 3' x3' by 16" (see below for exact measurements). Its design is platform based for ease of assembly and uses solid sides, front, and back, for cleaner look and to prevent pest nesting.

Currently it is hard to find redwood and 2" x6" are the only redwood we could find in home depot. Cost was 25.00 per 2x6x12 and 35.00 for the 2x6x16 and cost us about 140.00 to build. The first step must have narrowed base of 2x6's of one board thickness (about 1 1/2 inches) if you wish to have all steps the same height. please see below for full design specs and thanks for watching.

Supplies
3-2x6x12’ Redwood
1-2x6x16’ Redwood
One box Deckmate 3 ½ inch screws
One box Deckmate 2 ½ inch screws for inside connectors.
Finish with belt sander and clear spar urethane or varnish

Cut list
Treads and Risers:
9-35 ¾” one is bottom base front and is next narrowed to 4" width (by taking off 1 board thickness with table saw).
Base: are over length and will need trimming with skill saw. Bottom row is narrowed from 5 ½ inch width to 4” width to make all stairs the same height.
2-32 1/2” both are bottom base sides and is narrowed to 4” width
2-21 1/2”
2-10”
Back:
3-32 ¾ One is bottom base back and is narrowed to 4” width
Inside connectors
2-9 ½
2-15”

Placement of cuts to optimize use of wood
2-2x6x 12 for 8 of the 35 ¾ pieces. Each board will have 1 “ waste for 4 saw cuts that should be plenty.
1- 2x6x12 for 35 ¾ , 2-32 ½ ” 1-21 ½ ” so equals 122.25" so has 21 ¾ inch waste for 5 cuts.
1- 2x6x16 for 1-21 ½", 2- 10", 2-9 ½", 2- 15, 3-32 ¾,” = 187.75" so has 3¼" of waste for 9 cuts in the 192” length (don't cut 32 3/4 pieces until needed as you should check they will fit tight see asssembly).

Assembly:
1-Cut everything to its length except the backs as they will need to be cut after you verify back opening width (you want it to fit tight).
2-Narrow bottom front and 2 sides by 1 board thickness (back will be done latter)
3-Drill 2 holes in each side of tread and riser with a 1/8 inch drill bit just the boards not what they screw into.
4-lay out narrowed bottom and square up and screw together (you can use one of the treads in back to temporarily hold square)
5-screw in treads they are flush to sides but have a 7/16" toe kick and spacing so use a 7/16" spacer
6- lay out 21 1/2" section so it lines up square and screw together add treads same as before
7-remove temporary backs as you need them now and do last 10" section
8-Sand all sections beveling edges
9- tip on side and while pressing together 1st two sections with a spacer between add inner 9 1/2' connector. flip over and add other side. Do the same as you add 15" connector to last section.
9-trim sides at back to with skill saw make even with top step.
10- measure inside back and cut back pieces (not necessarily 32 3/4" as you want it to be tight bottom back one needs to be trimmed by one board thickness
11-seal with outdoor spar urethane or varnish
12- admire your work give me a thumbs up and subscribe :)
