Police say a 29-year-old man was left fighting for his life after being shot in the head near a family shelter in Midwood. The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. outside 928 Coney Island Ave. Investigators say the victim was standing on the corner when he was hit in the head and body by gunfire. He was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition. The Department of Homeless Services confirmed he works for the nonprofit that owns the family shelter.
