Could France ban the hijab for under 18s?

A few weeks ago the French Senate voted to ban the hijab - a head covering many Muslim women and girls wear - being worn by under 18 year olds in public. You may have seen reaction to this story trending globally online since the vote, when senators voted on an opposition amendment to ban what they call ‘conspicuous religious symbols’ being worn by minors in public spaces. The proposed ban is not a law yet and may never become one. Next, it will go back to parliament.
