Work on Part Two of the Dysfunctioning of the West continues with a discussion of Heidegger's concept, Dasein. Falcon, who studied Heidegger with Richardson, takes issue with his translation of this key term. Richardson translated Dasein as "There-being." Falcon argues that while this is the closest literal translation, it is not "true" to Heidegger or to the deep role "There-ness" plays though out the Heideggerian corpus. Toward the end of this video, Falcon moves to a discussion of how "There-ness" influenced Camus and why, in the end, confronting the reality of death leads to the realization that human existence is tragic and no matter how deeply we love, at best, we can take another's death as our own, but we can never move past the fact that we are alone together.
