The Church as Israel Expanded and Continued

The name “Israel” can refer to many things—the man Jacob, the OT people of God, a modern Middle Eastern country—but it also is a designation for the community of believers. As such, the church is Israel expanded and continued still today, for the church worships the Messiah who sits on the throne of David and rules as the Son of God at the right hand of Yahweh. In Mark 6:1-13, we in miniature what will be expanded upon in the rest of the NT.
