Board & Batten, Wildfire Evacuation...Not Again! Outdoor Kitchen #9

This is the most action packed, emotional video I've ever made.

Where do I start...siding! Similar to what I installed on the off grid Spur Cabin, the outdoor kitchen gets siding that mimics the old-fashioned board and batten. I use rough-sawn exterior plywood for sheathing, which adds a tremendous amount of strength to the structure. Then on the seams and studs (every 24") I add 2-inch-wide battens to really give it that character.

What are these battens made from, you ask? Fence boards! Yes, cedar fence boards are back in style. Sorta! They are a LOT cheaper than buying cedar trim, and look great when it's all said and done.

And then the roller coaster ride began. It started with a relaxing daytrip to Canadian wine country with Karen...I'll show you a few clips of that trip. Then I saw the smoke. And then we were evacuated from Red Moose Ranch as the winds pushed the wildfire closer. So stressful. Ultimately, so fortunate, as you'll see.
