Salts form when positively charged protons on acids bind to negative electrons on bases. Mitragynine has a water solubility of 64-84 micrograms per ml of water at a pH of 7 but a solubility of approximately 3.5 milligrams per ml at a pH of 4. This could be altered by the anion (acid) used, but regardless shows mitragynine salts generally dissolve to a good extent in water regarding human consumption purposes. Drugs need to be dissolved in solution (water, ethanol, fatty acids etc.) in order to be absorbed. Otherwise, they precipitate in the gut and are excreted. This is why we dissolve cannabinoids from cannabis into fatty acids to maximize absorption. They have very low water solubility and don't form salts like mitragynine.
