HOA stands for Home Owners Association. Sometimes it’s a POA, or Property Owners Association. In both cases, they have three main functions. First, they will collect membership dues. Second, they will maintain the common areas. Third, they will enforce the rules and regulations. Not all subdivisions have an HOA or POA, but if you’re thinking about buying and/or building a house, it’s important to understand what the HOA/POA restrictions are.
