Florianópolis, the capital of the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil, is mostly made up of the 54 km long Santa Catarina Island. It is famous for its beaches, including popular tourist resorts such as Praia dos Ingleses at the north end of the island. Its Lagoa da Conceição, a saltwater lagoon, is popular for windsurfing and boat excursions. The Pedro Ivo Campos Bridge connects the island to the mainland shopping area.
