Turbo Diesel Engine Runaway - Epic Diesel Failure (Turboschaden)

Often caused by failed turbo seals, diesel runaway is where the engine oil bypasses the turbo seals, and is sucked into the engine. The engine rev's will pick up until the engine is running as fast as physically possible.

Turning the engine off at the key will not stop the engine, the only way to stop the engine is to either starve it of oxygen, or the easiest method is stall is. Ensure the handbrake and footbrake are both fully on, place is a highish gear (3rd is ideal) and drop the clutch. This should stall the engine. If it does DO NOT restart the engine!

If you cannot stall the engine evacuate the area and call the fire brigade. Should the engine eventually seize when it runs out of oil it can explode, releasing shrapnel everywhere, with serious consequences. Leave an exclusion zone of at least 30-50 meters.
