Sea Shepherd has released dramatic footage, including drone footage, of the sinking of the last of the “Bandit 6” toothfish poaching vessels, the Viking, in Pangandaran, West Java.

Director of Sea Shepherd Asia, Gary Stokes, was at the sinking.

“Another of the Bandit 6 poaching vessels has met its end, this time at the hands of the Indonesian government. Indonesia’s uncompromising approach to stamp out IUU activity is reflective of a global swell against illegal fishing,” said Stokes.

The sinking of the Viking marks the end of over a decade of toothfish poaching in the Southern Ocean at the hands of the Bandit 6, and the conclusion of Sea Shepherd’s 12th Southern Ocean Defense Campaign, Operation Icefish 2015-16.
