As we walk along the Thames foreshore we see a huge bone emerging from the mud. As we get closer we see jawbones, femurs and teeth of varying shapes and sizes in the same area. Where do they come from and why are they here?! I must admit - bones and teeth that I come across on the River Thames, I usually leave behind unless they are particularly special - like a turtle bone i found once near a Georgian era dump, or the curious looking pharyngeal teeth that came from the throat of a carp. There are lots of bones to be found on the foreshore and they can often come from centuries old taverns, kitchens, butchers and slaughterhouses.

Today I am out on the Thames with Artist Amy-Leigh Bird, who is inspired by these forgotten bones and teeth and uses them in her artwork. By the end of our outing I start to see the beauty in these objects which usually I overlook.
