Ever thought about buying a fan from another country, even if the shipping costs more than the fan itself? Yup, that’s exactly what I did when I saw this fan on a Chinese marketplace. I couldn’t resist its nostalgic design and surprisingly decent price totally hooked me.
In China, there are tons of fans being sold, including some with that retro vibe, like this one. At first, I didn’t believe it. This fan design is a total throwback to the 80s, originally popularized by Hitachi. I was skeptical, but also excited. Luckily, China uses the same power spec as Indonesia: 220V 50Hz. The only difference was the plug shape, so I just needed a simple adapter.
After some internal convincing, sacrificing a bit of savings, and committing to the mission, I ordered this fan through a third-party service to ship it to Indonesia. The process was kinda long: buying the item ➡️ waiting for it to reach the agent ➡️ paying for international shipping ➡️ and then waiting about a month for it to arrive.
When the box finally showed up, it was bigger than I expected, turned out they used a double box for extra safety. The outer box was plain but had a bunch of cool looking Chinese stamps stuck all over it. Kinda made it hard for me to throw it away lol. The inner box looked like it had been opened before, things were a bit out of order, but thankfully the fan and everything inside arrived safely.
Once I unboxed it and tried it out, yeah… it definitely feels like a budget fan, but not in a bad way. The materials are actually pretty sturdy. This fan comes in a few colors and timer options too, but I feel like this color gives off the most classic look. It has 3 speed settings, a timer, and adjustable louvres that can spin by wind pressure if you loosen the knob.
Performance wise? Surprisingly powerful! Without the louvres spinning, and just aimed upward, this fan cools down the whole room, probably thanks to its big (or maybe even overpowered) motor. But when the louvres do spin, the wind gets more spread out and less focused, kinda chaotic. That got me wondering could I mod this and use a sync motor instead for more consistent movement?
Sound-wise, it's sure pretty loud, reminds me of an 8” or 10” high-RPM exhaust fan. But design-wise? This fan totally earns a spot in my collection. I’ve been dreaming of owning an OG Hitachi box fan, and this one scratches that itch pretty nicely.
