Arsenal sign David Raya permanently for £27m after his fruitful loan spell at the Emirates last season... as the club triggers option to buy their new No 1 goalkeeper from Brentford

Arsenal have activated their option to sign David Raya from Brentford on a long-term contract for £27million
The Spanish goalkeeper, who was on loan last season, made 41 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions and kept 20 clean sheets.

He won the Premier League golden glove award, with 16 shutouts in the league, to cap off a successful campaign. Once such highlight saw him make two penalties saves in the Champions League last-16 tie against Porto to send his side to the quarter-finals for the first time in 14 years.

The 28-year-old took Aaron Ramsdale's No 1 spot in September and has not looked back. He is currently with Spain at the Euros.

On making his move permanent, Raya said: 'After a year on loan as a Gunner, I can finally say that I'm an Arsenal player for the coming years.

'I'm excited to see what the future holds but always living in and enjoying the present.
'It's a dream come true to be here and I want to thank you for all the support you have already given me throughout the last year.'

Mikel Arteta said: 'David showed us last season what an important player he is for us, so we are delighted he is now officially our player.

'He is a big presence in our dressing-room and we are really pleased to keep working with him.
