When last we left the Fab Four, the "loveable moptops" had focused their creativity not on being teen idols, but on making music that reflected culture. Beginning with 1965's Rubber Soul, continuing with Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Magical Mystery Tour, and culminating in The White Album, the Beatles were now sought after by adult fans, and dealt with adult issues.

From amorous activity on the asphalt; to a ska song; to a guitar in tears; to a folksy song about freedom; a pledge of undying love; a birthday song; and a carnival ride, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr no longer needed to tour but wanted merely to create. They had nobody (with the exception of Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys) to top; they were already at the top.

Volumes have been written (Wikipedia contains 35 pages of information on the album) about the songs and their meanings, advances in recording technology, as well as the cracks in the band's foundation. Countless theses have been written about who wrote what and the influences of several of the record's 30 selections may have had on generations of musicians and music enthusiasts, but - oh, enough! Just listen to my vocal renditions of these ten songs by the lads - and then hear the originals.
