Imphal, January 04, 2022 (DIPR): Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated 13(thirteen) developmental projects and laid foundation stones of 9 projects today at Hatta Kangjeibung, Palace Compound, Imphal East through virtual mode in the august presence of Governor Shri La. Ganesan and Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh. The total cost of the projects of various departments is ₹4815 crore (Rupees Four Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifteen Crore).
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Narendra Modi expressed his happiness for welcoming him along the 8 kms stretch of Imphal International Airport to Hatta Kangjeibung by forming human wall and said that it will remained ever throughout his life. He stated that during his tenure as Prime Minister of India, his government has been focusing for the promotion and development of the North East regions of the country. Recalling the recent rechristening of ‘Mount Harriet’, a historical tourist spot at Andaman and Nicobar Island to ‘Mount Manipur’ he added that it will let any tourist to understand the history of Manipur that has been remaining unrecognized for the past 75 years. He added that the setting up of National Sports University in Manipur is a mark of tribute for producing a number of sports personalities which brings laurels for the country in different disciplines in International level, such as Commonwealth Games to Olympics.
Highlighting the benefits of today’s inaugurated and foundation stone laid projects to the people of Manipur, Prime Minister said that Manipur is emerging towards the direction of development. Prime Minister today inaugurated the Water Transmission system of Thoubal Multi-purpose project which will provide drinking water supply to lakhs of people in Imphal city. The Water Supply Scheme project by Water Conservation at Tamenglong Headquarters which is aimed to provide safe drinking water to residents of Tamenglong covering ten habitations in the district is also inaugurated by the Prime Minister. Prime Minister also inaugurated the Steel Bridge over Barak River on NH-37 constructed to enhance seamless year-round connectivity to Silchar from Imphal. The Steel Bridge will provide smooth movement for heavy traffic as well.
With the aim to effectively provide a variety of technology based services, including traffic management, solid waste management and city surveillance, the Imphal Smart City Mission-Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) project was also inaugurated along with Imphal Smart City Mission-Development of Western River Front on Imphal River (Phase I) which will boost local identity and economy. Imphal Smart City Mission-Development of Mall Road at Thangal Bazar (Phase I) was also inaugurated by the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister also inaugurated the project for development of INA complex at Moirang which was taken up by the State Government to further promote the significant role of the INA in India’s independence movement. Project for Refurbishing, Restoration and Renovation of Govindajee Temple which will play an important role in preserving the rich culture and traditions inherited from our ancestors was also inaugurated.
New Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Kangpokpi under Enhancing Skill Development Infrastructure (ESDI) was inaugurated along with New Office Building of Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Nityaipat Chuthek Imphal. To further boost mobile connectivity in the State, 2,387 mobile towers with 4356 Base Receiver stations was handed over to the people of Manipur.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated the project for Augmentation of Senapati District Headquarter Water Supply Scheme for Promoting Tourism under NESIDS on Turnkey Basis and a 200 bedded Semi-Permanent (Steel and Metallic Modular Interconnected Structure) COVID Hospital at Kiyamgei Mayai Leikai, Imphal East.
The Prime Minister laid foundation stone for 5 National Highway Construction Projects covering 111 kms for further improvement of road infrastructures which will contribute in the development of Manipur and make it socially and economically strong. He also laid foundation stone for Construction of Government Residential Quarters at New Checkon which will be an integrated housing colony with modern amenities.
Shri Narendra Modi also laid foundation stone for Construction of Manipur Institute of Performing Arts at Gurgaon which will provide a fillip in promotion of the rich art and culture of the State showcasing rich cultural diversity and heritage. With an aim to boost the Information Technology sector in the State, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for Setting-up of Centre for Invention, Innovation, Incubation and Training (CIIIT).
