1984 RTR Bike Ride | Full Documentary

In this special documentary to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Remember the Removal Bike Ride in 1984, filmmaker Samantha Robinson interviews some of the original cyclists to learn more about the inaugural ride that started an annual tradition here at the Cherokee Nation.

Beginning in 1838, 16,000 Cherokees were forcibly removed from their homeland by the United States, in what is now known as the Trail of Tears.

In 1984, a group of young Cherokees retraced the route their ancestors took in a program known as the Remember the Removal Project.
