Adlerdenkmal: The “Eagle Monument” in Keetmanshoop commemorates the German soldiers who were killed in the Herero and Nama wars in 1897, 1903 and 1906-1907 respectively. It is shaped in the form of an obelisk and topped with the German Imperial eagle in bronze. Another memorial at the same site commemorates those who fell during the course of WWII. The latter, however, is not part of the national monument. The monument and bandstand are situated in the center of Keetmanshoop in the little park adjacent to the Post Office in Keetmanshoop, the capital of the south of Namibia.

Keetmanshoop railway station was erected in 1908, when the territory was colonised by Imperial Germany. It is part of the TransNamib Railway, and is located along the Windhoek to Upington line that was inaugurated in 1915 and connects Namibia with South Africa. Keetmanshoop also has a junction to Seeheim and Aus, completed in 1908. The station was rebuilt in 1928 after old building was damaged by fire.

Mesosaurus Fossil Camp is a guest farm and campsite in the south of Namibia. The farm hosts its own Quivertree forest and offers the famous "Mesosaurus Fossil Tour" which is personally guided by Giel or Hendrik Steenkamp.
The Mesosaurus is probably one of the most convincing examples to prove the drifting of continents. The same genus in the same rock formations is to be found in both southern Africa and South America. In southern Africa the fossils can be found in the Whitehill formations, while in South America they are found in the Irats Formations.

Old Post Office Building

In 1908, Gottlieb Redecker, the official builder of the German colonial government’s Works Department, drew up plans for a new post office building in Keetmanshoop. Although Keetmanshoop already had a post office at that stage, it was no longer able to serve its purpose effectively because the village was expanding very quickly with its new status as a railway junction and military and administrative centre for the south. The building was erected by the firm Seebach & Bach and completed in 1910. Like a number of buildings in Keetmanshoop, it is made of granite due to the stone’s durability and low maintenance. Air-dried bricks were only used for the interior. Building wood and corrugated iron were obtained from Cape Town, while the doors and windows were imported from Germany. Building is situated on the corner of Hampie Plichta and Sixth Avenues. It was officially proclaimed a national monument on 2 February 1987.

Johanniter Haus - The old Stone Hospital
The old hospital on Keetmanshoop, built by the Johanniter Order, is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The building today houses the offices of the Ministry of the Environment and Tourism. The site where the old hospital was built was sold by the Crown to the community of Keetmanshoop on 10 June 1912. This follows after the Johanniter Order already requested in 1908 that the German authorities should set up a hospital in this town. The hospital was completed in 1913 at a cost of 120,000 marks. In 1959, the Catholic Church built the St. Joseph nursing home which caters for another 12 patients. The hospitals are used until the new hospital along the main road to South Africa is opened in 1984.
