My Sawyer's Pheasant Tail Nymph Variant (Fly Tying)

In this fly tying video, I tie a variant of Frank Sawyer's Pheasant Tail Nymph.

The original Pheasant Tail Nymph was tied using just wire and pheasant tail fibres (no thread). To compliment the simplicity of this extremely effective nymph fly pattern, part of the tying process of the fly involved a technique of doubling and redoubling of the pheasant tail fibres in the thorax of the fly. A downside that I found, however, is there is a tendency for the wire to break. Not ideal, especially for fly tying beginners.

With this variant, I wanted to capture some of the original elements of the fly but also add some subtle changes to help make it a bit easier to tie and retain the fly patterns effectiveness.
