ADDING/SWITCHING PROTAGONISTS IN A STORY

What's up, my friend? Today's question is a little tricky: is it possible to add or switch protagonists throughout a story without losing the reader's interest? This is a challenge I had to face while writing my latest novel and here's the (very important) lesson I learned about it!
