The median annual salary for first responders in the US is only $40,950, or roughly ~$19/hour. Entry-level positions start at $34,000/year, and more experienced workers make up to $70,000/year.
Here are the annual mean wages for different first responder occupations according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS, May 2022):
