"Hey Dan, I am thinking about getting the MrCool DIY. How do you know what size you should get for your house?"

The only way you're really going to know is if you get a manual J load calculation performed on your house. There are probably firms in your town that can do it. You have them come out and they will do some measurements and stuff.

If you're cheap and you don't want to do that? I understand. There are some calculators you can find online. If you're replacing a central air unit, you could just go see what you have now. If you get the same thing, you're probably going to be okay.

Now, for the products we sell on IWAE.com, we do give you what a unit can handle in typical circumstances. In newer equipment, with variable speed, oversizing isn't as big of a deal as it used to be.
