Flip Through of Artist Books Made From A Single Sheet

In this video, I show you the artist books I made from a single sheet of watercolour paper using the zig zag meandering fold (4 x 4 fold) to construct the book. If you haven't seen the 'how to' video - go here:

I have become very interested in artist books recently.


The first book is called 'Shades of Sand & Tide'. I was working on a coastal theme when I made this book.


The second book, 'Sight Lines' uses a very different palette - reds, earthy golds and black.


The third book, 'Flowering Beauty' was made using a different fold configuration from the three. It is a 4 x 3 fold - so I folded the paper into quarters along the length and into thirds along the height. The result is a square format book.


The last one is called 'Bloom True'. I used a palette of purples and violets, mullberry and turquoise.


The great thing about an artist book is it's possible to display the book using a plate stand and you can select a different spread you want to be able to see every day or week.


They make wonderful presents! The power of the hand-made says so much to the receiver.



Each book uses a selection of my favourite mark making techniques e.g. acrylic paints, inks, gel pens, inktense colour pencils, graphite and charcoal. I have also incorporated collage of hand-painted bond paper and artist tissue.
