Make your own practice pad for under $20!

Practice pads can be expensive, and sometimes it’s just more fun to make your own things! For this project, I used a piece of wood, two mouse pads, and some Krazy Glue. Some of these items you may be able to find from your local Dollar Store, but I found the piece of wood from Michaels Craft store, and the mouse pads and already glue from Walmart.

You can use whatever size of wood you would like, just be sure to find mouse pads, or other rubber material such as laptop bags, that are big enough to fit the area. I used a circular shape piece of wood that I bought for $5, and I used two mouse pads that were $4.88 each. You may use one if you would like a thinner feel and louder sound, but two mouse pads provide a realistic feel and the quieter sound I was looking for.

I measured out the area of wood I need to cover, and then I found a pot lid from my kitchen that was the perfect size to trace. I cut out the two mouse pads, and then set one off to the side. Take the top layer off of one of the mouse pads so you have a rough side on both sides, and then glue that one down to the wood. I spread the glue as close to the edge as possible, and as thin as possible, making sure there are no bumps as I am gluing down. Let that one dry for about 10 minutes, and then do the same thing with the other mouse pad.

Once the entire area is covered and glued down, put a few books on top to weigh it down and flatten it out, and let it dry for about 10 minutes.
