Program Notes to Piep
After working on Verwickelte Synästhesie (for Conductor quartet, 2012), the composer had the idea of taking the metronomes used in that work as the basis for her own new piece for two metronomes alone. This piece would be about creating as many musical combinations as possible on these small devices. The first version of the piece was created in 2014, after the premiere the composer continued to develop the composition, and in 2015 the definitive version was set.

In this piece, the KORG MA-1 metronome, which is specifically called a ,,SOLO METRONOME'' on the official website of KORG, is not used under normal circumstances to show a proper tempo, but rather in the capacity of an artistic musical instrument. Through the various functions built into the metronome, the grouping and recombination of the rhythm, the alternation and increase/decrease of the tempo and dynamics, the influence of the position transformation on the pitch and the use of difference tones, etc. are manipulated by two musicians.
