Excerpt of Julie Andrews singing "I'm Old-Fashioned" by Jerome Kern and Johnny Mercer on "The Garry Moore Show, first aired 1 May 1961 on CBS.

At the time of this broadcast, Julie was performing on Broadway in "Camelot" and it would be the first of four separate guest appearances she would make on the hugely popular New York-based TV variety show. The guest spots on "The Garry Moore Show" are especially significant because they helped establish an enduring personal and professional relationship between Julie Andrews and Carol Burnett, who was a regular feature player on the show. Indeed, their extraordinary screen chemistry on "Garry Moore" would lead directly to the first of the duo's landmark TV specials, "Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hall" (CBS, 1962).

The lovely Kern-Mercer ballad performed here as Julie's debut on "The Garry Moore Show" would become something of a musical standard for the star. She had already recorded a version of "I'm Old-Fashioned" for her 1958 RCA album, "Julie Andrews Sings" –– under the musical direction of Irwin Kostal who was also musical director on "The Garry Moore Show" –– and she would perform the song again numerous times in subsequent years, both on TV and as part of her live concert repertoire. As this ravishing rendition demonstrates, the song suited Julie's crystalline soprano like a musical glove!
