11 Plus - Number Relationship (Type K): Eleven Plus Exam Tips

For these questions there will be three groups of numbers. The first two groups have three numbers and the last group will have a number missing in the middle.

For each group, the middle number is somehow related to the two numbers on the outside. For each group of numbers the rule is the same.

These questions want you to work out what number is missing from the third group.

How to answer the question

The first thing you should do is work out the relationship between the numbers in the first two groups.

Focus on the first group of numbers. What must you do with the two outside numbers to get the middle number?

Do you need to add them together? Multiply them? Subtract one from the other? When you have worked out the rule for the first group, move on to the second group of numbers to check the rule.

If you think that to get the middle number you multiply the numbers on the outside, then check that this also works for the second group.
If the multiplication rule works for the first group of numbers and the second group of numbers you have found the right rule and can now find the missing number in the third group.
