How To Fix Unable To Delete App On iPhone

In this quick tech how-to video, I’m going to follow up on an older video I made showing you how to delete apps on an iPhone. It seems that iOS 14 defaults to a content restriction for some users, making them unable to delete any apps.

With the restriction turned on, you probably get something like this when you go to delete an app. Press and hold on the app you want to delete, tap Remove app, and you only get the option to remove from your Home Screen. Not helpful if you want to delete an app completely.

To fix this, open Settings.

Next tap Screen Time.

In here, select Content and Privacy Restrictions. You will more than likely see that Content and Privacy is enabled here. I always keep this off, as I like to deal with these settings manually. And it seems that it’s split down the middle if people have this on or not, without even knowing it.

Tap iTunes and App Store Purchases. This is where you can allow or don’t allow the deleting of apps. Select Deleting Apps and change it to Allow. When you’re done, hit back. You can then check your settings here against mine, but as I said I usually turn all of this off anyways, so head back one more time and slide the Content and Privacy Restrictions off if you want.

Now, if we head back to the home screen and try deleting the app from earlier by holding on the app and tapping remove, we now have the option to Delete.
