THE HEYTHROP INSTITUTE: RELIGION & SOCIETY
Founded in 2003, the Heythrop Institute: Religion and Society (HIRS) provides a place for research, reflection and action by means of projects related to the relationship of religion and society. Some of our research work includes the Power of the Word project (detailed below), the Health, Healing and Human Flourishing project, and the REMUS project (Religion-Mimesis-Society), each chaired by Heythrop academics and fostering research opportunities and resources. HIRS deploys a range of approaches that reinforce the links between theology and philosophy, and a range of other academic fields including history, literature, the classics, and healthcare.

THE POWER OF THE WORD
The Power of the Word project organizes international conferences and talks, fostering dialogue between theologians, philosophers, literary scholars and creative writers. Our aim is to explore the boundaries between poetry, theology and philosophy, and to date we have produced two publications: Poetry and the Religious Imagination: The Power of the Word (2015), and Poetry and Prayer: The Power of the Word II (2015). Our next international conference, The Prophetic Word, is scheduled for September 2017.
