This young Cape fur seal didn’t know it yet, but he was in serious trouble. A discarded packing strap had tightened around his neck. It's a silent, deadly trap left behind by humans. When OCN rescuer Naude approached, the seal growled and fought back, unaware that help had finally arrived.
With just two hands, a net, and a Leatherman, it takes mere seconds to cut away this piece of plastic. But for marine animals, every gram of ocean trash can mean a slow and painful death.
This rescue shows how man-made waste continues to devastate wildlife.
At least this young seal got a second chance at life, free from the invisible chains of plastic pollution.
