Kung-Fu Master marks the introduction of a new video game genre, the scrolling beat 'em up. The moves are simple, kicks and punches, however there is the possibility of varying the execution of the moves based on the movement commands. In fact, the character can duck and jump, and hit enemies in flight or crouched. Some enemies will throw knives that you have to dodge, others you will have to hit in flight. Another new feature is the introduction of the energy bar, which will allow the character to take different amounts of damage before going into game over. The game is organized into 5 levels, at the end of each of which there is a boss to face, who also has his own energy bar.

Kung-Fu Master segna l'introduzione di un nuovo genere videoludico, il picchiaduro a scorrimento.Le mosse sono semplici, calci e pugni, tuttavia vi è la possibilità di variare l'esecuzione delle mosse in base ai comandi di movimento. Il personaggio difatti potrà abbassarsi e saltare, e colpire i nemici in volo oppure accovacciato. Alcuni nemici lanceranno coltelli da dover schivare, altri sarà necessario colpirli in volo. Altra caratteristica inedita è l'introduzione della barra d'energia, che consentirà al personaggio di subire diversi danni prima di andare in game over. Il gioco è organizzato in 5 livelli, alla fine di ognuno dei quali c'è il boss da affrontare, il quale dotato anch'esso della sua barra d'energia.
