Coordinate geometry is the study of geometry using coordinate points. It can be used to find the distance between two points, divide lines in a ratio, find the midpoint of a line, and calculate the area of a triangle. 

Some important formulas for coordinate geometry include:

Distance formula: D = √[(x2 – x1)2 + (y2 – y1)2 ]

Section formula: ((m1x2 + m2x1)/m1+ m2 , (m1y2 + m2y1)/m1+ m2)

Area of triangle: 1/2 * [ x1 (y2 - y3) + x2 (y3 - y1) + x3(y1 - y2) ] 

In coordinate geometry, the coordinates of a point are (x, y). The x-coordinate (abscissa) is the distance of a point from the y-axis, and the y-coordinate (ordinate) is the distance of the point from the x-axis.
