Udayananu Tharam Malayalam movie starring Mohanlal, Meena Durairaj, Sreenivasan, Mukesh, Jagathy Sreekumar and Salim Kumar in the lead roles.

Udayananu Tharam is the story of Udayabhanu (Mohanlal), who is an assistant director and script writer aspiring to make it big. Udayan is an honest, hard-working, disciplined and a do-gooder to friends and struggling junior artists like Rafique (Salim Kumar). He is thwarted in his attempts by a scheming friend and junior artist Rajappan Thengamoodu ( Sreenivasan ) who steals his script to become a superstar. Udhayabhanu soon finds himself faced with a career and personal crisis, with his faltering relations with his superstar wife Madhumati (Meena Durairaj), who was groomed by Udayan, contributing to the latter. Later, with the help of producer Babykuttan (Mukesh), Udayabanu prepares to direct another film, but he is forced to cast Rajappan as the hero since he was the star with most screen value. Rajappan takes up the offer and decide to make life miserable for Udayan during the making of the film and in the end walks out without doing the climax scene. What follows is the actual racy climax of the film with a great twist.
