The Bold Brushwork of Scottish Colourist F.C.B Cadell

Описание к видео The Bold Brushwork of Scottish Colourist F.C.B Cadell

Painted in the 1920s, Roses by Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell fuses the influence of French Post-Impressionism, the sophistication of Art Deco and elements of Orientalism. In this episode of Anatomy of an Artwork, discover how Cadell’s frustration with traditional Conservatism led him to perfect his technique of painting over wet, white primer to create an intentionally chalky palette – a method that made his bold colours appear even bolder. Using his modern Art Deco studio as a backdrop, Cadell references the French vogue for Japanese design principles with his subject matter. This painting, by one of Scotland’s most important Colourist painters is a highlight of our upcoming Scottish Art sale (September 17 | London).
