De kortfilm Gastarbeiders (2021) is een Belgisch drama geschreven en geregisseerd door Issam Bougrine (27). De film is een afstudeerproject van Bougrine aan de LUCA School of Arts in Brussel.

Verhaal
De film volgt de broers Mimoun en Hamidou, twee Marokkaanse gastarbeiders die in 1964 naar België kwamen, verleid door de veelbelovende brochures. Ze kwamen werken in de mijnen, met de bedoeling geld te sparen en terug te keren naar hun thuisland. Echter, de realiteit van het 'beloofde land' bleek anders dan verwacht .​

Gastarbeiders behandelt thema's zoals migratie, identiteit, familie, taalbarrières en de uitdagingen van de eerste generatie Marokkaanse migranten in België .​

Ontvangst en Prijzen
De film werd geselecteerd voor verschillende filmfestivals, waaronder het Leuven International Short Film Festival. Tijdens het Brussels Short Film Festival 2022 won Gastarbeiders de nationale publieksprijs.

Plot
The film follows the brothers Mimoun and Hamidou, two Moroccan guest workers who came to Belgium in 1964, lured by promising brochures. They came to work in the mines, intending to save money and return to their homeland. However, the reality of the so-called 'promised land' turned out to be quite different from what they had expected.

Themes
Gastarbeiders explores themes such as migration, identity, family, language barriers, and the challenges faced by the first generation of Moroccan migrants in Belgium.

Reception and Awards
The film was selected for several film festivals, including the Leuven International Short Film Festival. During the 2022 Brussels Short Film Festival, Gastarbeiders won the national audience award.
