India grows around 1500 varieties of mangoes, and one of them is the famous Langda Aam — a mango whose name has an equally interesting story as its taste.
Around 300 years ago, a saint in a Shiva temple in Banaras (Kashi), Uttar Pradesh, planted this mango tree for the first time. Soon, this mango became popular across Kashi for its sweet taste and juicy pulp.
When the news reached the King of Kashi, he had the mango tree planted in his royal garden.
And the reason it’s called "Langda Aam" is because the saint who planted it was physically disabled (langda).
Now, how true this story is — that’s uncertain.
But the real question is — does the story behind the name matter to the person tasting the mango?

Maybe not. Because the moment you take the first bite, you forget the name — and only the amazing taste stays in your mind.
