Orton Technique for Landscape Photographers!

In this photoshop photography tutorial let's learn about orton effect.The Orton technique, created by Michael Orton in the 1980s, combines a sharp and out-of-focus image to achieve a dreamy effect. Originally done with slide film, it can now be done digitally. Choose an image with lush foliage for the best results, such as an autumn forest or waterfall scene.

Here's how to apply the Orton effect:

Duplicate your background image and name the new layer 'screen'. Set the blend mode to Screen.
Create another duplicate and name it 'multiply'. Set the blend mode to Multiply.
Adjust the overall brightness using a Levels adjustment layer.
Increase the saturation using a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer.
Blur the multiply layer using Gaussian Blur (around 10-20 pixels for a typical image).
You've now applied the Orton technique! Feel free to experiment with different settings.
