Our Lady of Dolours Basilica - Thrissur, Kerala | 3rd Tallest Church in Asia | Indian Church Tours

Believed to be the biggest and tallest church in India, and third tallest church in Asia, Shrine Basilica of Our lady of Dolours is of 25,000 square feet area located in Thrissur. Built in Indo-Gothic style, the church is also known as 'Puthan Pally'. It is a minor basilica of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church in Thrissur City in Kerala. Its notable feature is the 260 feet high Bible tower at the rear of the church. There is a majestic array of 10 alters, adjacent to the main alter which is about 100 feet high.

Blessed in 2004, this tower depicts the whole life of Jesus and is the first Christian art gallery in Kerala. Visitors get a panoramic view of Thrissur city from the top of the tower. In addition to the bible tower there are other two bell towers in front of the church each measuring around 140 feet. The interior of the church has been decorated with fine specimens of mural paintings, images of saints and some scenes from the scriptures. Also mosaic bricks are used to pave the floor of the Church and the whole church is gorgeously illuminated with varied varieties of electric lamps.
