Wells State Park is located just south of Escanaba, Michigan and as such, doesn't get a whole lot of use. Therefore it remains one of the cleanest and least congested parks in the Michigan State Park system.

The park started out as "Camp Wells" in the 1930s as it was one of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) that the Roosevelt Administration created as part of the New Deal to get us out of the depression era.
