Mendé is a Martiniquais rhythm, but it is also played in Haiti, as a Rara or carnival rhythm. It takes on a whole new direction with musicians from all over the world. I don’t give my musicians references before playing, but to me, this track is a tribute to Hugh Masekela.

Le mendé est un rythme martiniquais, mais on le joue aussi en Haïti, comme un rythme de rara, de carnaval. Ça prend une autre tournure avec des musiciens qui viennent de partout. Je ne donne pas de références aux musiciens avant de jouer, mais pour moi ce morceau est un hommage à Hugh Masekela.
