The office is on the second floor of the 1887 Pennsylvania Railroad passenger station , the Harrisburg Transportation Center (the Amtrak station).

The Power Directors Office, which closed at 7 a.m. Feb. 2, 2013, once controlled the overhead catenary used by electric locomotives from Harrisburg Pa. eastward to near Philadelphia, from the Enola Freight Yard to near the Pa./Maryland state line, The Pennsy's A&S Low Grade Line and other electrified lines.

The 60 by 60-foot room controlled the flow of 11,000 volt A.C. current across the western end of the railroad's Northeastern electrification network. The electricity powered the railroad's GG1, P5A, and E44 locomotives, as well as multiple unit commuter cars.

The Harrisburg Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society obtained a lease for the facility in May, 2022 and is the process of restoring it as an educational exhibit, as a perfect pairing to the Chapter's Harris Tower Railroad Museum:

The Harrisburg PDO had all of its functions moved to Amtrak's Consolidated National Operations Center in Wilmington, Delaware.

The Harrisburg PDO is located on the second floor of the Harrisburg Transportation Center (the Amtrak station) in Harrisburg, Pa.
