Escaping Hell - Marking the Jewish Revolt at Sobibor

Описание к видео Escaping Hell - Marking the Jewish Revolt at Sobibor

In October 1943, while Nazi Germany's murderous final solution ravaged European Jewry, two Jewish prisoners, Lieutenant Aleksander (Sasha) Pechersky and Leon Feldhendler planned and led a mass revolt and escape of hundreds of Jews incarcerated and awaiting extermination at Sobibor.

A warning note left in mid-1943 by a Jewish victim inspired the prisoners to plan this daring escape. Nearly half of the fleeing inmates were killed while escaping, and many others were caught in the manhunt that followed.

Approximately 50 survived by hiding in the nearby forests.
