Declining, Yet Still Smiling | Calumet City, Illinois

Calumet City, Illinois is known for its smiley face water towers more than anything else these days. In the past, the suburban city was often referred to as "Sin City" due to not only drinking during the prohibition era, but also gambling and other forms of adult entertainment. The district that Sin City once stood proudly has since been demolished, and today it's nothing more than a couple of grass fields. Otherwise, Calumet City resembles most of it's neighbors being a declining blue collar community.
