First published in 1994, the composer Mario Lavista's explains, the "Tres Danzas Seculares (Three Secular Dances) attempt to make audible three moments of the courtship of imaginary birds." The third movement, performed here, showcases a melody of cello harmonics that leads to a three-voice canon.

Young artist's showcase host Emi Ferguson was joined in the WQXR studio by cellist Coleman Itzkoff and pianist Mika Sasaki. Coleman shares a program of Bach, Esmail, Vasks, Clara Schumann and more.
