Karuthamuthu is the story of a pure heart striving for love and respect in a world of stone-hearted fair-skins. Karthika's father, the one to have caressed her and taken efforts to design her future bright, had died at her early age living only his skin color as heritage to her. As dark containing clouds covering the clear blue sky, her truthful and sincere inner self is blanketed by her inky skin. She is looked down upon by people around her and even her step-father for the same reason of skin tone added to the fact that they don't share the same blood. Many of her marriage alliances are also turned down leaving her heart broken, lonely and in a state of dismay. Initially it is only Karthika's mother who shares her pain.

But as the drama rolls on, will she find a kind second heart to feel for her?.. would there come someone to hold on to her?... will she be elevated from this social as well as psychological oppression?...
